Does Humidifiers help with COVID ?

What are Humidifiers ?

A humidifier is a device, primarily an electrical appliance, that increases humidity in a single room or an entire building.

How does it helps in COVID ?

Relative humidity affects the mucociliary system (in which mucus acts as a barrier system and traps the pathogen), which removes pathogens before they reach the lungs. Hence lower the rate of transmission of COVID-19, influenza or other respiratory viruses.

What others it can be used for ?

1. Dry skin.

2. Sinus congestion/headache.

3. Dry throat.

4. Nose irritation.

5. Bloody noses.

6. Irritated vocal cords.

7. Dry cough.

8. Cracked lips.

Some people may also use humidifiers to relieve symptoms related to health conditions. These may include : a) cold and flu,

b) allergies,

c) sinusitis,

d) eczema.

Humidifier risks and precautions : 1) Too much humidity can be dangerous in a space.

2) Unclean humidifiers can emit harmful elements that can lead to respiratory problems.

3) Warm mist humidifiers may burn children if touched.

4) Cool mist humidifiers may disperse hazardous minerals and other particles that irritate the lungs.

5) Distilled water is the safest type of water to use with a humidifier.

6) An older humidifier may contain harmful bacteria or mold that you can’t clean or remove.
